Flora and Fauna
Due to Anarc’s minimal atmosphere and generally inhospitable climate, animal and plant life are relatively uncommon outside of sealed farms. Most plant life is limited to the five most commonly consumed crops: a crisp starch known as Crinsh, a softer starch called Ossal, an extremely large sugar-filled berry called Pon, a rich flavorful leaf called Carnum, and a crunchy pungent spherical root named Rorsch. The second most common plants are a wide variety of spices enjoyed by Anarc’s upper class, as well as the titanic conifers and small, primative palms that decorate the Realm’s cities. Hardwoods and other trees between the two extremes are only found in the rare workshops of woodworkers and other rustic craftsmen. A thick, hard, black fungus can be found outside of the cities, though it appears for all intents and purposes devoid of life. Rumors of more sophisticated fungal forms as well as majestic watery flowers subsisting entirely on sunlight in the unsheltered areas of the Realm persist, but have yet to be confirmed.
Animal life seems limited to what humans keep near them. Felines and canines are sometimes kept as household pets, as well as the occasional horse. Furgs (large, wooly borsine creatures) as well as Kohm (Yak-like organisms) are kept and herded for food, though the rich have small stores of familiar pigs and cattle for their consumption. The only two avians seen with any regularity are glorified crow and dove species, the scavenging Vraak and majestic Yaam respectively. Both can have wingspans in excess of five feet.
Insect life is found only around plants within cities, and is usually limited to variants on the same two species. Ra worms move through a multi-staged lifecycle, much like caterpillars. Iss moths are rather large flying arthropods, with iridescent wings up to a foot across. A number of other roaches and standard-fare pests also occupy the world, and rumors of much larger spider and centipede like organisms in the outer reaches persist, but remain unconfirmed.
