Commander Desai is one of the rising stars of the Keeper military. Forty years of age, he has shown exceptional promise and even caught the eyes of the Fleet Admiral, considered by many to be his protege. Desai was not enlisted during the Fight for Freedom; instead he served with great distinction as a privateer, earning the Medal of Justice for his efforts. As a civilian, Desai was rumored to be lighthearted and fun loving, and always advocated civilian service to the government. All of that seemed to change with his enlistment.
Today, Desai is known as a cold and cynical individual, but never to the point of excess or inefficiency. Some thing he learned from Cain, but others believe personal events encouraged Desai to enlist and drastically changed his outlook on life. During his military career he has volunteered for both command and combat positions n a number of risky counterterrorist operations, and shows stunningly little mercy to his opponents, a trait more typical of Marigov than the Fleet Admiral, his mentor. Still, he has been a huge supporter of Operation Willful Order, and is the commander of Iota Wing, including squadron Iota 4. He showed great interest in this position and volunteered to possess it, implying that some element of the fun-loving privateer remains in his blood.
At the beginning of Operation Windfall, Desai revealed his history to the members of Iota 4. He explained how his wife and daughter had been kidnapped by slavers before his enlistment, how he had rescued them as their captors ejected them like so much cargo to lose weight and build the speed to escape, and how they had condemned themselves to the void of space regardless, not wanting to burden the man they loved with the emotional ruin they had experienced. Desai gave the group a different assignment, drastically changing the outcome of The Hillcrest Den Siege. While Desai expected this to be the final act of his career, it ended up earning him a promotion to the rank of Commander.
